Now you've found your ideal candidate, what do you need to do to
get him or her "up and running" as quickly as possible? What pre-appointment
checks do you need to make?
Pre-recruitment checks
Checking the right to work in the UK
Foreign nationals and work permits
Taking up references
Criminal records and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks
Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act ("VBS")
Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE)

See: right to work in the UK.
Foreign migrants: the Government is proposing an annual limit on the
number of migrants who come to work in the UK. In the
meantime a temporary limit now applies. There are also some changes to the
Tiers 1 and 2 of the PBS. See: foreign workers
Illegal workers: the number of civil penalties levied by the UKBA on
those found employing illegal immigrants doubled last year - to 2210 - with fines
totalling £22.1M.
